1/4 Cup / 60 mL Watkins
Vanilla Dessert Mix
1/2 Cup / 60 mL Apple Juice, divided
8 Cups / 2 liters Peeled, Cored, and Sliced Apples
2/3 Cup / 160 mL Brown Sugar
2 teas. / 10 mL Watkins Apple Bake Seasoning
Watkins Cooking Spray
1/2 Cup / 125 mL All-Purpose Flour
2 Tbsp. / 30 mL Cold Butter or Margarine
1 to 2 Tbsp. / 15 to 30 mL Cold Water
1 teas. / 5 mL Sugar
Dash Watkins Cinnamon
Preheat oven to 425ºF / 220ºC. Combine Vanilla Dessert Mix and 1/4 cup / 60 mL apple juice in small mixing bowl; set aside. In large kettle, add remaining apple juice, apples, brown sugar and Apple Bake Seasoning. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat and cook 10 minutes. Stir Dessert Mix mixture into apples and cook until thickened. Pour into 8-inch / 20-cm square baking dish sprayed with Watkins Cooking Spray; let cool while preparing crust.
Place flour in bowl and cut in butter with pastry blender or two forks until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle with enough water, stirring with fork, until dough begins to leave side of bowl. Shape into a ball and flatten between plastic wrap to a 4-inch/10-cm circle. Chill 15 minutes. Roll out to an 8-inch / 20-cm square between plastic wrap. Cut into strips and place lattice-fashion on top of apple mixture. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over crust. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until mixture begins to bubble around edges. Makes 8 servings.
