1 Cup plus 2 Tbsp. of
Shortening.
2 3/4 Cups of Flour.
1 Teas. Salt
Milk
1 Egg Yolk Slightly Beaten.
1 Cup of Crushed Cereal Flakes
7 - 8 Peeled & Sliced Apples.
2 Tbsp. Flour
2/3 Cup Sugar
1/2 Teas. Watkins Cinnamon
1/4 Teas. Watkins Allspice
1 Egg White
1 Cup of Powdered Sugar
1/2 teas. Watkins Vanilla
1 -2 Tbsp. Water
3 Tbsp. of Finely Chopped Nuts. (Optional)
Cut shortening into flour and salt (like a pie crust). Add milk to egg yolk to measure 2/3 cup total. Stir this into flour mix until pastry is mixed. Form into a ball and divide into 2 equal parts. Flatten one part and roll to fit a 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch jelly roll pan. Place on the bottom of the pan. Now sprinkle crushed cereal mix on top. Mix apples with, 2 Tablespoons of flour, the sugar, cinnamon and allspice. Now spread this evenly over the cereal. Roll remaining pastry to fit the top. Then place it on the top. Beat egg white until soft peaks form and then spread over the top of the crust. Bake until crust is golden brown for about 55 - 60 minutes at 350 degrees.
Topping:
Mix the powdered sugar, vanilla, and water until smooth. Spread
over warm bars. Sprinkle with nuts. Cut bars, eat and enjoy!
Note: Any cereal flakes will do such as Corn Flakes etc.
