BASE OR BROTH ~ Choose one Watkins
Beef, Chicken or Onion Base
TOMATO ~ One 12-oz. Can Tomato
Paste PLUS Two 16-oz. Cans Tomatoes with juice
(chopped) PLUS water to equal 10 cups total.
CHICKEN / TURKEY ~ 10 Cups Watkins Chicken Broth
BEEF ~ 10 Cups Watkins Beef Broth
PROTEIN ~ Choose one (1 Lb. or 2 Cups, cooked) Ground Beef (browned), leftover meatballs or meatloaf (chopped), cooked chicken or turkey, cut up ham, dry beans (cooked -- pintos, kidney, Great Northern, garbanzos, or a mixture of whatever is on hand), lentils (raw), frankfurters, sausage, Keilbasa, pepperoni (sliced)
GRAIN ~ Choose one or two (2 cups) Cooked Watkins Rice Blend (any variety), barley (cooked), pasta (raw), corn, dumplings (add at end of cooking time)
VEGETABLES ~ Choose two or more (1 - 2 cups ~ sliced, diced or shredded) Carrots, celery, cabbage, onion, potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, yellow "wax" beans, turnips, parsnips, corn, zuchinni, green pepper, peas or pea pods, cauliflower, broccoli, whatever you have around
SEASONINGS ~ Choose two to four (1 - 2 tsp each) Watkins Basil, Watkins Cayenne Pepper (dash), Watkins Garlic & Chives, Watkins Minced Green Onion, Watkins Cumin, Watkins Garlic Powder Granules, Watkins Marjoram, Watkins Oregano, Watkins Parsley, Watkins Rosemary, Watkins Thyme, Watkins Onion Powder Granules, Watkins Sage
To prepare soup: Bring stock to boil in large stock pot or dutch oven. Add all ingredients; salt and pepper to taste; reduce heat; simmer one hour. In crockpot: Pour boiling stock and other ingredients into crock pot and simmer 8 - 12 hours or overnight on LOW setting. Serves 8 - 10.
